This style of dowry chest is presumed to originate from Gujarat; it matches similar designs for this region and seems to match similar designs from early 1900's. This chest is on wheels made from the same hard Rosewood the chest is made from. This chest shows a carved domed lid with excellent detail and iron strap work. The large lock strap to the chest fits perfectly in flawless design. This chest also has some hidden compartments to the inside and front of the chest. The wear to chest is consistent with the time period of make and wear from time used and travelled with. The period contributed with this chest is the Anglo-Indian period of their history when many Englishmen inhabited parts of India. All parts of the chest are in good working order and would look great in a modern or traditional setting. The measurements of this dowry chest are 36 1/2" x 69 1/2" x 36 1/2".
