The lot features an original hand woven vertically loom wool trade rug showing an astounding size and beautiful Navajo Native American Indian Old Crystal Pattern style. The rug is from the 20th Century and was hand made by the Zapotec Native American Indians. The Zapotec are significant because 400 years ago the Spanish missionaries taught the Navajo and Zapotec how to weave. These practices are still used today in both Zapotec and Navajo Tribes. The rug shows an all 100% wool hand knotted construction with all natural dyed high quality wools and pigments in an impressive geometric pattern having a characteristic double border. The rug shows a brown, orange, red and black on white or cream field. The rug is in good condition with no visible major damage with soft wool, a very tight original weave and no fraying. Measures overall 11 foot 11 ½ inches by 9 foot 1 ½ inches. This is truly one of the largest and most impressive Native American rugs we have ever offered for sale.
