Featured in this lot is this large, Sailfish mount from the 20th century. Atlantic Sailfish occur in tropical and subtropical waters near land masses, usually in depths of over 100 feet, but occasionally are caught from ocean piers close to shore, including the Gulf of Mexico. Pelagic and migratory, Sailfish usually travel alone or in small groups. Its outstanding feature is the high first dorsal fin which is cobalt blue with a scattering of round dark spots. This sailfish shows beautiful and vivid colors of silver, light gold, dark gold, light blue, blue, dark blue/purple and black. The large dorsal fin shows a blue and light blue color scheme with black dots throughout. Its mouth is slightly open and its nose is in good condition. The dorsal fin can be removed and the glass eyes are professionally crafted, showing a large black pupil. The sailfish mount shows good condition overall with some wear present from its age and use over the years, but no signs of major damage is noted. Slight chips noted throughout the piece, prevalent on tips of fins. The measurements of this sailfish is 109" L x 49" W and weighs 30 pounds total.
