Large Sioux Tacked & Painted Spontoon Gunstock War

The lot features a large carved wood gunstock war club with spontoon iron blade from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation Sioux of the Dakotas. The club shows a classic “gunstock” shape with unique “keyhole” cutouts at the top portion of the club and bottom pommel with round body and circle cutout as well. The club is solid wood and covered in paint in colors of green, brown, red, and yellow. The club is also covered in brass covered metal tacks in various banded, cross, circle and other symbol designs with a nice coloring. The front shows a iron spontoon lance / spear blade with four-notch cuts, raised median and double blade. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Dale Harrison, Cincinnati, Ohio. Measures overall 3125-inches long by 11-inches wide; blade protrudes from the club4-inches and is 1-3/8-inches at its widest.
