This is a very large umbilical cord turtle fetish with beaded top attributed to the Sioux Native American Indians. The piece is constructed of Indian tanned hide with a slightly stiffened dark patina. The top is covered in a geometric pattern with whiling logs showing all glass trade seed beads in colors of greasy yellow, Cheyenne pink, cobalt, red white heart, and medium green. The piece has four beaded fringes, which act as arms, and a fancy beaded edge. The piece is both sinew and thread sewn. The stuffing of the piece is unknown and might be contemporary. The age of the piece is unknown as the beads and hide show the appearance of age, yet the unknown stuffing and large size indicate otherwise. Please examine and come to your own representation of age. Measures overall 11.25" L by 7" W by 2.75" thick.
