This is a fantastic late-vintage 20th-century large sterling silver necklace by Navajo artist Eloise Richards set with King’s Manassa Turquoise and Branch Coral pendant strung on a multi-strand necklace. The pendant is signed, “E. Richards / Sterling” by 20th-century Navajo silversmith, Eloise Richards. The necklace pendant shows a classic Dragonfly effigy design with the wings being set in polished cabochons of rare King’s Manassa Turquoise and the body in Oxblood Branch Coral polished cabochons all bezel set with accents of rope silver and silver spots with a large hoop slide. The necklace shows three-strands with turquoise and coral having various sterling silver Navajo pearl concho beads with a sterling silver clasp. For the Navajo (Diné), the dragonfly symbolizes pure water, healing, and transformation, often appearing in sacred art like sand paintings to represent water's purity and bring rain, and is considered a holy insect to be respected, with killing it believed to cause drought. They are seen as messengers, connecting to water and bringing hope, while also embodying resilience and the stripping away of negativity. The necklace shows good condition overall with no wear or damage present to the piece. The necklace measures 19.5" in length from clasp to clasp, dragonfly is 2.5"W x 3.125"L, with a total weight of 130 grams.
