Featured in this lot is this WWII era, leather, canvas & pony fur Swiss military rucksack (tornister). The Swiss Army pony fur rucksack, often called a Tornister, was a primarily WW2-era (1930s–1940s) pack designed for mountain infantry. These durable packs used pony/horsehair hide over canvas for waterproofing and ruggedness, often featuring leather bases and straps, manufactured by Swiss saddlers. This pack is constructed from pony fur, leather and canvas showing two leather straps on the back used for carrying. Covering the front is a large flap, that when opened, shows a large compartment. Inside the compartment is a canvas and leather bag as well as a cloth bag holding two, wood handle horse brushes. No marks other than the Swiss Military acceptance mark are present. The Swiss Military acceptance mark shows the Swiss cross over a capital "K" on both back straps. It shows good condition overall with some wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. Wear to straps and buckles present. It measures 5 1/2" L x 14 3/4" W x 16" H and weighs 6 pounds and 2 ounces.
