Featured in this lot is this Leonard Young Bear (1929-2014) lithograph of a Native American man done in 1974. Leonard was born on September 3, 1929 in Tama, Iowa, to John and Amy (Waseskuk) YoungBear. He attended Sac and Fox Day School as a child and married to Chloe OldBear on July 28, 1958. Leonard previously worked as a machinist at Cooper Manufacturing in Marshalltown. He had also worked as a carpenter at the Meskwaki Senior Center and was involved in farming. Leonard liked sketching and visiting powwows in his free time. He passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. This piece shows a Native American man holding a bundle of feathers in his hand and a cane in his other as he looks directly at the viewer. He is wearing brightly colored traditional clothing showing colors of blue, red, yellow, orange, green, purple, black and white. It is signed at the bottom reading, "Leonard Young Bear '74". It is set in a wood frame and is matted once with blue matting paper. It shows good condition overall with slight wear present to the frame but no wear or damage is noted on the art. The visible art measures 10 3/8" L x 7 3/8" W, while the entire piece measures 13 5/8" L x 10 3/4" W x 7/8" D. It has a total weight of 1 pound and 6 ounces.
