Presented in this lot is an Exceedingly Rare First Edition of, "The Life Of Gen'l. Grant", by JT Headley, 1868. "The Life Of Gen'l. Grant, The Life of Ulysses S. Grant General-In-Chief U.S.A. by Hon. J. T. Headley, Illustrated, Sold by Subscription New York: E. B. Treat & Co., Publishers 654 Broadway, C. W. Lilly Chicago, Ill.; A. L. Talcott, Pittsburg, PA.; E. E. Shear, San Francisco, Cal.; A. H. Hubbard, Philadelphia, PA., 1868. This was a special edition book sold only by subscription with very few copies still remaining. The book tells the thrilling true tail of our Gneral-In-Chief and later President of these United States with excellent illustrations. JT (Joel Tyler, 1813-1897) was an American clergyman, historian, author, newspaper editor, adventurer and politician who served as Secretary of State of New York. This book is in amazingly good overall condition considering being over 150 years old. The green clothbound stamped hardcover is in good overall condition, gold gilt lettering, stamped eagle and stars image are still sharp in appearance, very slight gilt loss. Scuffing noted to cover edges. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and foxing throughout. No other obvious marring noted. Measures 5.5"W x 8.5"L x 1.75"D
