For your consideration is this extremely rare biography, "Life of Ulysses Simpson Grant", By E. E. Brown, copyright 1885. Author and artist, Emma Elizabeth Brown, was born in Concord, New Hampshire in 1847. From her father she got a love of books and reading and a love for the beauty of the outdoors. From her mother she got a good executive sense. Brown contributed articles to various literary and religious magazines, including The Atlantic. Among the books written by Brown were five volumes for a "Biographical Series", published by D. Lothrop and Company. In addition to this biography on Grant, she also wrote biographies of Washington, Garfield, Oliver Wendell Holmes, and James Russell Lowell. Her biographies were reportedly in steady demand. This book encloses the details of Ulysses Simpson Grant's life. This book is in good condition, with wear consistent with its antique age. The binding is tight and the stamped, gilt and decorative cloth cover shows very well. The book measures 7 3/4" L x 5 1/4" W x 1 1/4" D. A note on the apparent rarity of this book: This is a First Edition, published in 1885. In researching com parables, not one volume from the time period could be found. The only volumes of this book on the market currently are modern reprints, printed on demand.*
