In this book, Tyler provides a complete account of Africa, the local tribes and people, local customs, missionary voyages, European exploration, diamond and gold mining, with an extensive biographical focus on David Livingstone, a Scottish medical missionary with the London Missionary Society, an explorer in Africa, and one of the most popular British heroes of the late-19th-century in the Victorian era. Prominently featured is Sir Henry M. Stanley, the Welsh-American explorer, journalist, soldier, colonial administrator, author, and politician famous for his exploration of Central Africa and search for missionary and explorer David Livingstone. The green cloth bound gold gilt stamped illustrated hardcover is in good condition for being over 150 years old. Despite the scuffing noted on cover edges, the gold gilt on front cover is still bright. The spine gold gilt is showing some fading. Spine gold gilt stamped illustration depicts the original meeting of Livingstone and Stanley. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and top, bottom and fore edge foxing throughout.
