For your consideration is a Rare 18th Century French Louis XIII Style Walnut Barley Twist Trestle Dining Table. Louis XIII furniture is characterized by carving, turned wood and mouldings. There was a tendency toward the architectural; its forms being restrained and often massive. In the late 17th century, the spiral forms became a popular feature in furniture, particularly as legs and column decorations in English, French and Dutch pieces. The decoration also became known as “barley sugar twists” due to its similarity with the candy sweet of this era. This large table table has a classic French farmhouse profile and stands on thick, barley twist legs ending with bun feet. The "Y" style stretchers feature solid barley twist design with thick turned finials. The table top features thick planks, moulded Dupont edges. Beautifully carved with a deep colour and lustrous walnut patina, this antique French table is finished on all sides. Excellent quality with superb craftsmanship.
