Included in this lot is a pair of 18th Century Louis XV Provincial Caned Fauteuil Arm Chairs. The chairs feature upholstery of matching floral tapestry designs on the seat cushions and arms over cane seats. Crest rails, stiles, arms, side rails, front rails and cabriole legs are exquisitely hand carved with scallops, acanthus leaves and vines while serpentine carved crest rails and front rails also have centre stipple texture. The eighteenth century is considered the Golden age of French furniture. It was during this time that the most refined and beautiful Royal furniture was made in the busy Paris workshops of Europe's elite cabinet makers. Rococo motifs are central to Louis XV furniture design. These include C-scrolls, S-scrolls, acanthus leaves, rocaille (shell-like) patterns, and pastoral scenes. These elements were used to create a sense of movement and natural beauty, often giving the furniture a light, almost whimsical appearance. Cane seats and backs are in very good overall condition, weavings are in very nice condition. Upholstered seat cushions are removable and are in very nice condition. These 18th Century Louis XV Provincial Caned Fauteuil Arm Chairs have been well kept and are in very nice overall condition, no marring observed. Each measures 24.5"W x 23.5"D x 37.5"H.
