For your consideration is this Louis XV Style Hand Carved Walnut Fauteuil Arm Chair, circa mid 19th century. This French fauteuil arm chair features charming acanthus and vine carving on the crest, apron and shoulders. The acanthus decorated cabriole legs end with escargot scroll feet. The open arm construction (fauteuil) features stuffed arm pads (manchettes) set back from the front rail to comfortably accommodate the wide, structured dresses worn during the period. Brass tacks highlight the elegant fabric edges. A Louis XV carved walnut armchair (historically referred to as a fauteuil) is a hallmark of 18th-century French Rococo design, characterized by its sinuous asymmetrical curves, cabriole legs, and delicate floral or shell carvings. The French provincial craftsmanship is attractive and classic. This chair is in very nice condition, the upholstery is in good overall condition, rich patina observed throughout.
