This is an original Montana Territory Knives of Bozeman, Montana, camp bowie knife with an excellent scrimshaw, Charles M. Russell signature. The blade has been forged from 1095HC (High Carbon) steel and 15N20 Nickel Carbon, which is then heated and folded into 396 layers creating the astounding “Damascus” steel. The knife shows a wonderful ladder Damascus pattern. The hollow grind full tang blade has been paired with a set of nice, white, wild Buffalo bone grip scales, which are secured to the piece using two mosaic pins and lanyard loop. The tang has been artfully hand vine filled. The grips have also been artfully scrimshaw etched with the signature of Charles Marion Russell. C.M. Russell (American 1864-1926) is the most notable Montana and Old Western Artist of all time and is considered a true treasure of Montana. This example shows an original artwork, C.M. Russell signature with Buffalo Skull, which has been etched into handle. The blade is marked with the “MONTANA TERRITORY KNIVES BOZEMAN MONTANA” stamping, which shows the outline of Montana. The knife measures overall 9 1/2" long with the blade being 5" long.
