This is an original Montana Territory Knives drop point knife with an excellent scrimshaw of Smokey Bear. The blade has been forged from 1095HC (High Carbon) steel and 15N20 Nickel Carbon which is then heated and folded into 396 layers creating the astounding “Damascus” steel. The knife shows a wonderful ladder step Damascus pattern. The hollow grind full tang blade has been paired with a set of nice white wild animal bone grip scales which are secured to the piece using two mosaic pins and lanyard loop. The knife also features a set of polished steel bolsters. The tang and knife spine have been artfully hand vine filled. The grips have also artfully been scrimshaw etched with the image of Smokey Bear holding a shovel and waving with his other hand. Smokey Bear was adopted by the U.S. Forest Service back in the 1940's as part of their campaign to prevent forest fires. He quickly became a staple promoting fire safety and awareness and quickly became a beloved icon. The blade is marked with the “MONTANA TERRITORY KNIVES BOZEMAN MONTANA” stamping which shows the outline of Montana. The knife has been paired with a geniune leather hand crafted sheath. The knife measures overall 9 1/2" long with the blade being 5" long.
