The lot features a nice Mandan, Hidatsa, & Arikara Fort Berthold tribes porcupine quilled parfleche knife sheath and old silver pewter inlaid knife. The sheath is comprised of parfleche rawhide covered in tanned hide with a unique polychrome painted design on the lower portion in black and light brown / red. The sheath body is sewn with hide lacing and the top with sinew. The entire top section shows porcupine quill quillwork in natural white, light yellow and orange. There is a long tie strap attached. The sheath is paired with a classic 19th-century skinning belt knife with clip point and beveled two-piece walnut wood grips with two continuous bands of silver pewter inlaid. Truly a nice pairing with nice display. Provenance: From a private collection in Indiana. The sheath measures 11.5-inches in length by 4-inches wide with an additional 18-inch long hide ties. Knife is 12.75-inches long. Together the set measures 15-inches.
