Featured in this lot is this Maori hand crafted ceremonial Haka mask, circa early-to-mid 1900's. The mask features a soft wood construction consistent with the region and is naturally dyed with light brown coloration of the skin and red for the mask, with awkward eyes and naturally dyed head tattoos to the scalp. Haka is a posture dance in Maori culture, commonly associated with the traditional battle preparations of male warriors. The mask features a leather band in the back. The mask comes complete with a collectors’ tag. The condition of this haka mask is good and well-preserved, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this painted mask are 9 1/4" x 9" x 1/2".
