Featured in this lot is this Mata Ortiz polychrome seed pot by Christina Acosta. The seed pot features a wonderfully and professionally crafted ceramic construction that features intricate geometric pattern in a mosaic design painted delicately to the side walling of the of the seed pot. The mouth of the seed pot shows a freeform design. Mata Ortiz pottery is a recreation of the Mogollon pottery found in and around the archeological site of Casas Grandes (Paquimé) in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Named after the modern town of Mata Ortiz, which is near the archeological site, the style was propagated by Juan Quezada Celado. Quezada learned on his own to recreate this ancient pottery and then went on to update it. The condition of this open mouthed seed pottery vessel is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this pottery vessel is 3 3/4" x 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
