Featured in this lot we have Mayan hand carved figural shell gorget. The Mayan civilization developed a culture with advancements in art, architecture, mathematics and agriculture. The gorget displays shell construction with 15 carved holes across the piece. The interior of the shell displays a pair of hand carved Mayan figures in headdresses and traditional garb. The piece shows two holes at the top for the necklace cord. The piece shows good condition overall with some light wear due to age. The gorget measures 4 1/2" wide by 4 1/4" tall.
