Featured in this lot is a colored lithograph of Chief Wesh-Cubb from McKenney and Hall originally and later produced from E.C. Biddle in 1836. This artwork is wonderfully and professionally crafted hand colored lithograph construction. The lithograph features a portrait of Chief Wesh-Cubb a Chippeway chieftain. Wesh-Cubb was a respected Chippewa leader and a skillful warrior. McKenney described him as a "good, fat, comfortable looking Indian." The Chippewa (Ojibwa) were the most widespread and powerful tribe in the Great Lakes area. McKenney and Hall's 'Indian Tribes of North America' have long been renowned for its faithful portraits of Native Americans. A fine image from McKenney and Hall's 'Indian Tribes of North America': `One of the most important works ever published on the American Indians' field, a landmark in American culture. The portrait features the chieftain in a trade cloth wrap with adornments featured in his hair and around his neck. The lithograph is marked as follows: Wesh-Cubb - A Chippeway Chief. The condition of this lithograph shows some water damage to the upper left hand corner and shows some folding to the bottom right hand corner. The measurements of this lithograph are 20 3/8"L x 14 1/4"W.*
