This is an original rare Merwin & Bray New York single shot derringer with sing out octagon barrel and brass frame. The pistol was manufactured by Merwin and Bray from 1859 to 1866 and shows a 3 ½ inch octagon barrel with single blade silver sight, rosewood grips and a brass frame. The pistol is marked with the serial number under the barrel and at the base of the grips with the matching serial number of “595”. The piece is mechanically sound and shows a nice mellow patina and good condition for its early age. Chambered in .30 RF caliber. The handgun is not marked but is an original Merwin and Bray. Merwin & Bray was founded by Joseph Merwin in 1856 and was closed in 1874. After closing Merwin & Bray, in 1876 Merwin partnered with William and Milan Hulbert, who at the time owned 50% interest in Hopkins & Allen, to form the renowned and prestigious Merwin Hulbert (Merwin, Hulbert, and Co.) firearms manufacturer. The pistol is an ANTIQUE and requires NO FFL and NO Background check.
