This is a fantastic circa mid-19th Century coup stick from the Sioux Native American Indians of the Plains. The piece is very similar to the 19th Century fine Sioux Coup Stick with museum provenance sold by Heritage in 2012 for $2,390 which shows a similar shape with brass tacking. This example shows a slightly curved handle that has an octagonal carved shape and shows bands of solid brass square shank 19th Century trade tacks, as well as some iron nail tacks. One end shows a museum collection tag marked J1039R / H and the other shows a worn area. The entire piece has a rich dark chocolate honest patina and this is a great example. The brass tacking has some extra wear from an old collector. Measures overall 36.25"L overall.
