Featured in this lot are Signed Miniature Acoma and Navajo Effigy Pottery Animals, circa late century. The Acoma miniature skunk, circa 1960s, is a good example of Acoma pottery animals, or figurines. Miniature pottery animals and figurines are a celebrated tradition of the Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico. Known for their thin walls and intricate polychrome designs, these pieces typically feature black and orange/terracotta motifs on a white slip. The skunk is handpainted in black on white slip and signed underneath, "Hummingbird". The Navajo miniature turtle, circa 1980s, features a polychrome design. Navajo miniature pottery animals are often crafted using traditional techniques like horsehair firing and hand-etching. The turtle represents the deep cultural symbolism of longevity and Mother Earth. The turtle is signed underneath, "RBJ NAVAJO". Both pieces are in very nice condition, no marring observed. Respective measurements are 1.625"W x 3.75"L x 1.125"H and 1.625"W x 2.625"L x 1.375"H. Combined weight is 52 grams.
