Featured in this lot is this Mississippian ear milestone and throwing stone collection of artifacts. There are two artifacts in this collection. The first is a shaped throwing stone from a lighter porous stone material. The second is a shaped and carved, medium size milestone made from a black porous stone material. Geologists in North America use the terms “Mississippian” and “Pennsylvanian” to describe the time period between 358.9 and 298.9 million years ago. In other parts of the world, geologists use a single term and combine these two periods into the Carboniferous. The condition of these artifacts is good for their age, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of these stones are 3 1/2" x 3 1/4" x 3 1/2" and 7" in diameter x 3 1/4".
