The lot features three wood pipe stems from the Montana Blackfoot Native American Indians, dating to the late 1900's. The piece is from the historic Blackfoot Reservation in Browning and East Glacier, Montana (near Glacier National Park) and was displayed and curated by Ken Walks-In-Winter, the proprietor of Rising Wolf Traders, from circa 1989-1990 on the reservation. The first and largest stem shows six rectangular cutouts and a highly figured, carved paddle-like design with long pipe bowl end and tapered smoking tip, likely pine (or other softwood). The second stem is rectangular with a slight taper from the larger smoking tip to the smaller pipe bowl end. The piece has a burnished finish on solid pine softwood with Indian tanned hide fringe ties and trade tacks of brass-covered-metal and chrome-covered-metal. Lastly, the third stem is a cedar or redwood carved thin piece with notched hand hold, tapering smoking tip, and thin pipe bowl connection. Each pipe is hand carved and shows small defects from age and use. Measures from largest to smallest: 19" L x 2.75" W x 1/2" D; 12" L x 1.5" W x 1/2" D; 12" L x 1" W x 1/2" D.
