Featured in this lot is a collection of twenty-one (21) historical newspapers from Montana which date from 1886 to 1936, including The Examiner (1886) Dillon, Montana Territory; Montana Mining Journal (1892) Helena; Jefferson County Sentinel (1893) Boulder; Western Democrat (1893) Missoula; Daily Missoulian (1894 & 1896) Missoula; The Helena Clock (1894 & 1895) Helena; The Saint James Record (1895 & 1896) Dillon; The Interlake (1900) Kalispell; The Valerian (1909) Valier; Gilman Optimist (1918) Gilman (a ghost town); The Montana Legionnaire (1935) Malta; and The Boulder Monitor (1936) Boulder. While the majority of the newspapers concerned themselves with the agricultural and local news, The Examiner (1886 Dillon) focused on the Democratic County Convention, "An Unusually Harmonious Congregation", in anticipation of the Territorial Constitutional Convention that preceded the granting of Statehood in 1889. The newspapers are in fragile but otherwise good condition considering their age, tears and foxing noted. Largest measures 18"W x 24"L
