Shiras moose inhabit the Rocky Mountain region of the United States, this huge animal has very long legs, a large hump on its shoulders, and massive palmate antlers. The Shiras moose (Alces alces shirasi) has the smallest body of any North American moose. The body color is a rusty yellowish-brown. The bulls can grow to seven feet tall at the shoulder and can reach 10 feet in length. Mature Shiras Moose weigh 600 to 1400 pounds.
