For your consideration are Volume I and Volume II of "The Music of the Modern World" by Anton Seidl (Editor in Chief) and assisted by Fanny Morris Smith circa 1895. Anton Seidl (1850-1898) was a Hungarian conductor, best known for his collaboration with Richard Wagner and conducting his operas, and for his association with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City and the New York Philharmonic. The first volume is filled with histories, biographies, and commentaries while the second volume is filled with classical music compositions. Both are richly illustrated, with beautifully colored plates and B&W etchings throughout. The books shows hard covers and feature the title on the front reading, "The Music of the Modern World" in gold gilt lettering. Both spines feature the title, while the first volume reads, "Text 1" and the second one reading, "Music 2" in gold gilt lettering. Both volumes show good condition overall showing some wear from their age and use over the years but no obvious signs of damage is noted. Corners of cover show wear. Interior pages show good condition with no foxing or staining. The books measure 15 13/16" L x 12 1/4" W x 1 7/8" D and have a collective weight of 17 pounds and 14 ounces.
