This is an exceptional authentic original photograph by N.A. Forsyth of Butte, Montana showing a Crow Apsaalooke (Apsáalooke) Buffalo Roundup Camp dating to circa 1906. The photograph is marked on the back as shown N.A. Forsyth Butte, MT. The piece shows a silver gelatin original photograph on a heavy mount showing a gilt angled edge. The photograph shows a Montana Crow Apsáalooke Native American Indian Buffalo Roundup Camp dating to circa 1906 with multiple tipi’s in the background with a campfire at the foreground with a young Apsaalooke mother having a wearing blanket draped over her shoulders and a shirtless Apsaalooke child at her knees. Norman A. Forsyth (American 1869-1949) was a photographer who operated a studio out of Butte, Montana from 1904-1930 working for Underwood and Underwood and later Keystone View Company. Most of his work is displayed in stereograph viewer and portrait cabinet card form with such original photographs as this being increasingly scarce. He was known for his unique views of Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks; Butte, Montana; and Montana Indian Tribes. The piece is in very good original condition and has been professionally set in an antique gilt frame of the period. The frame measures overall 8 7/8” x 6 7/8”. The photograph measures overall 6.75”x4.5”.
