Featured in this lot is this very fine signed Acoma pottery jar signed and made by Berleen Estevan.
Berleen Estevan is a full blooded Native American Indian. She was born into the Acoma Pueblo in 1975. She has been working with pottery since 1985, at the age of 10. She was inspired to learn the process of pottery making by her Grandmother, the late famous, Lucy Juanico. The Acoma Pueblo pottery style is characterized by fluted rims and thin walls. Acoma artists are well known for their fine line painting and geometric patterns, which often symbolize elements from nature. A piece of pottery can take 60-80 hours to create before firing. This fine jar is covered with highly detailed animals, predominantly bees in black and rust on a neutral cream base. On the bottom of the jar is B. Estevan, Acoma, New Mexico. The jar is 4" tall, with a 2" opening and measures 14" around, and has no obvious signs of damage.
