Included in this lot are a Navajo Alvin Joe White Buffalo Turquoise Sterling Silver Pendant Necklace and matching White Buffalo Turquoise Dangling Pendant Earrings. The White Buffalo turquoise stone originates from the Tonopah Nevada area; it is found in the same general veins as Dry Creek turquoise but has no copper content. The name derives from the Native American belief that white buffaloes are pure and rare like the White Buffalo turquoise stone. This stone lacks the defining teal green color of classic turquoise but its black spider webbing pattern is reminiscent of turquoise. White buffalo turquoise is a symbol of Native American culture and is one of the rarest stones on the market. Its scarcity usually marks up the price but because it makes such beautiful jewelry, this albino turquoise is usually in high demand. The White Buffalo gemstones show a beautiful matrix of black host rock and clear white gem quality stone. The necklace features two smaller White Buffalo turquoise cabochon pendants, each with two 3/4" White Buffalo turquoise cabochons aligned vertically in separate bevel mounted pendants with two larger bevel mounted White Buffalo turquoise cabochons; one cabochon aligned horizontally above a larger heart shaped cabochon, both set into one sterling silver pendant. The pendants are surrounded by sterling silver balls. The White Buffalo turquoise cabochon sterling silver earrings are pendant style, each earring having two White Buffalo turquoise cabochons in separate round sterling silver bevel mountings, the individual mountings surrounded by sterling silver balls. The artist’s hallmark, "AJ", "Sterling", and "Navajo" can be seen on the back of the lower pendant. The condition of this necklace is very nice, with no obvious signs of marring; very slight patina adorning the backs of some of the pendants noted. The measurement of this necklace from clasp to lower pendant is 10.25"L. The collective weight of the pendant necklace and earrings is 77.5g.
