Featured in this lot is Navajo banded Chinle hand woven rug circa 1960's. The rug features a wonderfully and professionally crafted hand woven wool construction with bands of black, grey, red, and yellow set to an off white field and shows stepped decoration in the corners. The Chinle style was developed by Mary Cabot Wheelwright and Cozy McSparron, a trader at Chinle. They sought to revive weaving using classic period designs with vegetal dyes. Chinle rugs are known for their striped bands of geometric patterns and contrasting colors. These new regional styles were all inspired by Navajo Transitional Period designs, which typically featured striped motifs and vegetal dyes. The condition of this rug is good with no obvious signs of damage and in good overall condition. The measurements of this rug are 60" x 31".
