Included in this lot is a Navajo Native American Chinle pattern wool rug. The Chinle style was developed by Mary Cabot Wheelwright and Cozy McSparron, a trader at Chinle. They sought to revive weaving using classic period designs with vegetal dyes. Chinle rugs are known for their striped bands of geometric patterns and contrasting colors. These new regional styles were all inspired by Navajo Transitional Period designs, which typically featured striped motifs and vegetal dyes. This piece shows a mustard base with band colors of cream, dusty blue, gold, tan, and brown. The border of this rug is grey, cream, tan, and gold.. Within four of the stripes are diamonds. This piece is in very good condition, showing very tight weaving. The rug measures 31" by 21".
