Featured in this lot Vintage Navajo Diné Miniature Weaving Loom Sampler, circa 1970s to 1980s. This is a Navajo weaving loom sampler, a miniature model that demonstrates traditional Diné (Navajo) weaving techniques. These samplers are often used to display the intricate process of creating a rug, including the use of a continuous warp string and specific tools. The partially completed "rugs" features geometric patterns consistent with styles like Crystal, Chinle and Two Grey Hills, known for their natural wool colors and complex designs. "Tools" attached include a weaving comb (beater) used to pack the weft threads down tightly and a baton (shed stick) used for opening the shed and a spindle that is used to spin various fibers into yarns and to ply yarns. Similar miniature looms have been attributed to artists such as Catherine Cleveland, Sarah Ashley, and Emma Joe. They are considered both educational tools and works of folk art. Sample loom measures 16"W x 16"L, weight is U6.
