Featured in this lot is this Navajo (Dine) Whirling Log woven basket circa 1920s. The basket features a wonderfully and professionally crafted Beargrass construction that shows a woven design with scalloped rim that are wrapped and shows polychrome coloration with geometric patterns that shows whirling logs throughout the decoration. The Navajo (Diné) people are known for incorporating the symbol of the "whirling logs" into their art, including baskets and textiles. The whirling logs symbol is an ancient and sacred design, representing a story of migration and the idea of a journey. It also symbolizes healing, well-being, and the interconnection of the elements. The condition of this Navajo basket is well preserved with small wear to the rim of the basket but otherwise shows a well preserved condition.
