This is an original early Doris Smallcanyon (Navajo, born 1949) sterling silver “Morning Singer” Kachina Dancer and turquoise bracelet cuff with an early vintage age circa 1970’s, being hand signed. The bracelet shows the “Morning Singer” Kachina Dancer who is known to welcome the morning singing his song at Sun Rise, mouth opening changing to welcome the new day. The bracelet is hand signed / etched in cursive script, “D. Smyn” or “Smcyn” her earlier hallmarks. Doris Smallcanyon was a master Navajo silversmith, born in 1949 and was from New Mexico. She was best known for he silver spiritual deity figures set with turquoise and coral: Yei to the Dine, Katsinam / Katsina / Kachina to Hope and Ancient Puebloan peoples. Her work is part of the permanent collection of the Tonoho Chul Museum in Tuscon and is one of the most widely collected Kachina jewelry. The bracelet is set with six polished cabochons of Kingman mine turquoise including the Kachina’s headdress, spotted eyes and stone set on the Kachina skirt. Truly a fantastic early example in well kept condition. The measurements of this bracelet is 2 1/8" x 2 1/2" x 2 1/4" and the internal measurements of this bracelet 5 3/4". The collective weight of this bracelet is 24.6g.
