Featured in this lot is a set of Navajo Native American Fire Starter and Medicine bags originating from the early-to-mid 20th century. These bags show a tight thread weave and a long thin construction with a narrow opening at the center of the piece. The bags are made of off-white fabric, with one showing red lines woven into the piece. Both bags show the original gallery tags, reading "Navajo Fire Starter & Medicine Bags (2) 3.06.57". Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce was also the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery. The first bag measures 35" long by 9 1/2" wide, with the second bag measuring 26 1/2" long by 7" wide.
