Featured in this lot is this Navajo Germantown Gallup Trading Post circa 1940's. The rug features a beautiful Germantown construction that features a stepped decoration throughout the central portion of the rug that shows a heathered grey field that shows a medium red border to the ends of the rug that shows a off white and black coloration to the stepped medallion with a band of light brown towards one side of the rug. The rug features a traditional Gallup decoration with one end of fringe. Gallup Throws are small vintage Navajo weavings, made during the first decades of the 20th century by Navajo weavers located near railroad stops and tourist centers. These weavings were too small to be used as rugs, instead intended as tabletop mats or wall hangings. The thread count of this rug is 154 threads per square inch. The condition of this Navajo Germantown rug is good with two of the tassels shown missing but otherwise shows good overall condition. The measurements of this rug is 33" x 16 3/4". Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery.
