Featured in this lot is this Navajo Germantown Gallup trading post rug circa 1970's. The rug features a beautifully hand woven design in a Germantown style with and shows a traditional Gallup trading post construction with bands of geometric patterns with colors of turquoise, red, and dark blue. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, may not be a city you imagine influencing a Navajo Indian rug styling, but they were, in fact, notable for the spawning of the term “Germantown” rugs in the late 1800s. These intricately styled and often colorful rugs were so aptly named because the yarn that they came from was produced in the now suburb of Philadelphia. The condition of this rug is good with no obvious signs of damage and in good overall condition. The measurements of this rug are 31 1/4" x 19".
