Featured in this lot is this Navajo pictorial Germantown Hogan and outhouse sampler on loom rug circa 1910-1920's. The sampler features a pictorial decoration of a Hogan and an outhouse. A Hogan is a traditional dwelling and ceremonial structure of the Navajo Indians of Arizona and New Mexico, early Hogans were dome shaped buildings. The rug is shown on a loom and is shown as a sampler version of a bigger rug. The condition of this rug sampler is good with is good with the sub section at the bottom a little loose due to the presentation of the loom but otherwise in good tightly woven condition. The measurements of this sampler are 16" x 11". Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery. Identification#: E1036.
