Featured in this lot is this Navajo Klagetoh Trading Post rug circa 1950's. The rug features a wonderfully and professionally crafted hand spun wool construction with a beautiful central motif and red aniline dyes set to a grey field and black lining accents to the central medallion and the stepped decorations in the shoulders. The rug features a cloth band used to hang the rug up with a long dowel for viewing. Klagetoh is located just south of Ganado and 10 miles north of Wide Ruins. The English translation is “hidden springs”. The Klagetoh weaving is very similar to the Ganado rugs, but with a predominantly gray background instead of the Ganado’s red. Some experts do not consider Klagetoh a specific regional rug but a sub-type of Ganado. The condition of this Navajo rug is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall well preserved condition. The measurements of this Navajo rug is 36" x 56". The thread count is 140 threads per square inch.
