This is an original authentic late classic Germantown Navajo blanket dating to circa 1880-1890. Although the yarns are mostly Germantown, what makes this blanket unique for the period is the presence of handspun, native died indigo. Pieces with Germantown yarn rarely are found with natural indigo dyes, as commercial colors were readily available to the Navajo weavers by this period. Also within the body of this beautiful blanket there is Raveled American Flannel. The intricacy of the design in this blanket suggests that the weaver was an older skilled weaver who most likely was weaving through the classic period. This piece dates 1880-1890 and has no restoration, being in all original condition. Recently professionally cleaned, this blanket is ready for a prominent place in a quality collection. The size is 81 by 57 inches. Condition is excellent for a blanket of this vintage showing only some wear to the fringe, see images for condition.
