Featured in this lot is a Vintage Navajo Diné Melissa Yazzie Sterling Silver Turquoise Knifewing Pendant Choker Necklace, circa 1970s-1990s. The necklace has a wonderfully and professionally crafted sterling silver and turquoise construction featuring the Zuni deity Knifewing with a centre mounted turquoise petit point cabochon on a sterling silver bead chain. Reverse is stamped, "M" and "Sterling". Chain hook clasp is stamped .925 Knifewing is a powerful mythological sky deity and warrior figure in Zuni culture, often depicted in Native American jewelry as a, half-man, half-eagle being with flint-feathered wings. Representing courage, strength, and protection, this figure was adopted into popular, intricate sterling silver inlay jewelry starting in the 1910s-1930s. Melissa Yazzie is a celebrated Navajo (Diné) silversmith and jewelry artist based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Known for her traditional Southwestern craftsmanship, she specializes in handmade sterling silver pieces that frequently feature natural gemstones like turquoise. The pendant choker necklace shows good overall condition with no signs of damage or wear, rich patina observed throughout. Pendant measures 1.125"W x 1.5"L, total measures 9"L. Collective weight is 15 grams.
