The necklace has a wonderfully and professionally crafted sterling silver and turquoise construction featuring the Zuni deity Knifewing with a centre mounted turquoise petit point cabochon on a sterling silver bead chain. Reverse is stamped, "M" and "Sterling". Chain hook clasp is stamped .925 Knifewing is a powerful mythological sky deity and warrior figure in Zuni culture, often depicted in Native American jewelry as a, half-man, half-eagle being with flint-feathered wings. Representing courage, strength, and protection, this figure was adopted into popular, intricate sterling silver inlay jewelry starting in the 1910s-1930s. Melissa Yazzie is a celebrated Navajo (Diné) silversmith and jewelry artist based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
