The lot features a classic Vintage Navajo Pawn Style Stamped Sterling Silver Earrings. These impressive earrings feature a wonderfully and professionally crafted sterling silver construction displaying a classic vintage pawn style repousse, heavy high relief stamping with scalloped borders. The centre "sun" symbol radiates outward towards the four corners, symbolizing the interconnectedness of life through the four cardinal directions, four seasons, four stages of life, and the four elements, and is often depicted with sacred mountains, colors, and sacred plants. Navajo "pawn style" stamped jewelry is crafted through a traditional silversmithing process that uses ingot, or hand-rolled, silver and a variety of handmade stamps. One of Navajo (Diné) silversmiths greatest innovations was their use of stamp work to decorate silver. Navajo silversmiths have mastered the stamping technique to a point of almost mathematical perfection, creating beautifully intricate designs in silver. Stamps were historically handmade from iron or steel and often passed down from generation to generation. Many modern artists still inherit stamps for silverwork. The sun, a radiant orb of incandescent power, transcends its mere astronomical presence in the beliefs of the Diné, commonly known as the Navajo people. In the tapestry of Navajo culture, the sun emerges as far more than a celestial body; it embodies a profound symbol of creation and cosmic significance. The earrings are in very nice condition, no marring noted, rich patina observed throughout. "Sterling" is stamped on the reverse bottom of each earring. These beautiful earrings display rich patina throughout. Measurements are 1.25"W x 1.25"L each, collective weight is 10 grams.
