Navajo "pawn style" stamped jewelry is crafted through a traditional silversmithing process that uses ingot, or hand-rolled, silver and a variety of handmade stamps. One of Navajo (Diné) silversmiths greatest innovations was their use of stamp work to decorate silver. Navajo silversmiths have mastered the stamping technique to a point of almost mathematical perfection, creating beautifully intricate designs in silver. Stamps were historically handmade from iron or steel and often passed down from generation to generation. Many modern artists still inherit stamps for silverwork. The sun, a radiant orb of incandescent power, transcends its mere astronomical presence in the beliefs of the Diné, commonly known as the Navajo people. In the tapestry of Navajo culture, the sun emerges as far more than a celestial body; it embodies a profound symbol of creation and cosmic significance.
