For your consideration this lot features a Vintage Navajo Sterling Dragonfly Pendant by Navajo artist Gilbert Damon, circa 1960s-1970s. The pendant has six (6) red branch coral cabochons with silver beads and twisted rope design, pendant bale has traditional stamped design. The meaning of the Dragonfly symbol was to signify happiness, speed and purity. The dragonfly also represents transformation and life's ever constant process of change. Their first year of life starts in the water as nymphs, then metamorphose, change, into the flying creature we recognize as the dragonfly. The Southwest Indian culture use the term "snake doctor" in reference to a legend that dragonflies follow snakes around and stitch them back together if they are injured. For the Navajo people, the dragonfly is the symbol for pure water. Hallmark "G" and "Sterling" are stamped on the reverse. This beautiful pendant is in very nice condition, measures 2.75"L x 2.25"W, total weight is 20.9 grams.
