Featured in this lot is this Navajo Toadlena two grey hills wool rug circa 1940's. The rug features a beautiful opaque yellow field with black stepped design along the sides of the rug and shows a large medallion in its center with coloration of grey, off white, black and a central dazzler decoration with red coloration and a stepped off white center. The Toadlena/ Two Grey Hills trading post is located in northwest New Mexico, northeast of the Crystal area. It was at this trading post that the style had its genesis and from this trading post, it derives its name. The Style was started there by George Bloomfield and Ed Davis in 1914. Toadlena/ Two Grey Hills rugs are characterized by natural browns, tan, gray, ivory, white, and black. They typically have a central diamond motif surrounded by other intricate patterns. The condition of this rug is good with some wear to the corner tassels and wear to the outside edge of one of the sides of the rug, but otherwise in good overall condition. The measurements of this rug are 41 1/2" x 24 1/2".
