This is a phenomenal finely woven rug from master Navajo weaver Isabel Yazzie with a wonderful Two Grey Hills pattern dating to circa 1980-1990’s with a gallery tag. The rug is accompanied with an original Toh-Atin Indian Arts and Crafts Durango, Colorado tag marked with Isabel Yazzie, Two Grey Hills, 26 ½ x 37 1/2, and price of $3,300 (also shown is a Kodak photograph of the rug presumably dated 1996). This example shows a rich and iconic Two Grey Hills pattern with fine details in grey, multiple tans and browns, black and white / cream. The piece is in incredible well-preserved condition with little to no loss to the weave, bright rich coloring, no visible bleeding, and soft wool with a tight weave. The rug has an amazing tightly woven knot count of approximately 336 knots per square inch (28x12). Other Isabel Yazzie examples are described as being handspun and vegetal dyed wool. Provenance: The piece has been in a phenomenal Navajo weavings collection since the 1990’s in Billings, Montana and shown at the Toh-Atin gallery. Measures overall 26.5” by 37.5” without the tassels and 34” by 44” with them. This is the highest knot count Navajo of the sale.
