Offered for sale in this lot is a Navajo Native American Indian wool rug in the Two Grey Hills style. The Two Grey Hills style was started in 1914 by George Bloomfield and Ed Davis at the Toadlena and Two Grey Hills Trading Post. These Navajo rugs are characterized by natural browns, tan, gray, ivory, white, and black. It is not unusual for the blacks to be oven-dyed. Very rarely small amounts of red, orange or blue are used. The patterns usually have a central diamond motif and intricate patterns. The Two Grey Hills weavings are noted for their high quality. The trading post is located in northwest New Mexico, south of Shiprock and northeast of the Crystal area. This rug is no exception to the style, showing a double medallion motif in the center, flanked with symmetrical geometric patterns, and utilizing an intricate border. The rug originates from the around 1925. Overall, the rug shows very good condition, with a tight weave, and exceptional coloring. There is very slight edge wear. The rug measures 63 1/4" long, and 37 1/4" wide. The rug was found to be an authentic and rare example by Heritage Auction Co.
