Featured in this lot is this Navajo Diné Wylie Secatero Sterling Silver on Copper Cuff Bracelet. The bracelet features a wonderfully and professionally crafted heavy copper and stamped Sterling Silver overlay construction depicting stars, sunrays and step motifs which generally represent mountains, clouds, and the journey of life. The stepped pattern is most often an abstract depiction of mountains, particularly the four sacred mountains that define the Diné (Navajo) homeland. This symbolizes the connection to the land and the spiritual world. Wylie is a contemporary Navajo Diné silversmith from Gallup, New Mexico, whose work is in high demand in the Southwest. His silverwork reflects his love for the traditional patterns found in Navajo weaving, and he incorporates these intricate designs with his unique style. His skills as a silversmith came from his grandmother, noted Navajo artist Dorothy Secatero who taught his father, noted Navajo silversmith Randy Secatero. This bracelet has a solid and impressive appearance, made of thick gauge copper. The sterling silver overlay is stamped "Wylie Secatero" as is the underside of the copper. The bracelet is in very nice condition, rich patina observed throughout. Measures 7" circumference including 1.5" opening. Collective weight is 58 grams.
